From a cultural dance performance to piano classes to a crafts bazaar and a chance to audition to be a film, there are plenty of things to do around town this weekend. Here are our picks:

Kathak dance showcase

Katara Cultural Village is hosting a Kathak classical Indian dance performance at 7pm today, Aug. 5, at the drama theater (building 16).

The event is free and open to the public and is being held ahead of Indian Independence Day celebrations on Aug. 15.

According to the Gulf Times:

“Kathak is one of the eight forms of Indian classical dance. It traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India, known as “kathakars” or storytellers. From the 16th century onwards, it absorbed certain features of Persian and Muslim traditions and Central Asian dance, which were imported by the royal courts of the Mughal era.”

Art workshops and bazaar

Qatar’s handmade community will once again showcase their creations at the QatART pop up bazaar scheduled on Friday, Aug. 7, from 3 to 8pm. Members of the QatART community are also hosting various workshops at Katara’s Art Studios every first Friday of the month.
