Bothered by traffic congestion and air pollution in Qatar? Tell the government.

As water and energy consumption continues to rise in the country, residents are being asked to fill out a survey on their usage as well as environmental attitudes.

The Baseline Survey of Environmental Attitude and Belief of Residents in Qatar was launched this week by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) and the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), a national research institute of Hamad bin Khalifa University.

It will be online for the next month for people ages 17 years and older to fill out and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.

In it, respondents are asked about their primary environmental concerns in Qatar (such as air pollution, poor waste management and traffic congestion); whether they would be willing to sacrifice their quality of life to protect the environment and for more information about their water and electricity consumption habits.

The responses will help policy makers figure out how to improve the environmental situation in the country.

Further surveys are planned on other major issues such as waste, food, urbanization, climate change and the role of government in environmental protection.
