With just over three months to go before the start of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Qatar officials are hoping to send their largest-ever squad, including a record number of female athletes.
“I think the number (of women) will increase,” Thani Abdulrahman Al-Kuwari, the secretary-general of the Qatar Olympic Committee, said in a statement. Four female athletes represented Qatar at London in 2012. Two women have already confirmed to represent Qatar in Rio, with additional qualification events scheduled to run through July.
