A popular Turkish eatery in Bin Omran has closed for one month to serve out the final stage of a penalty ordered by a Doha court last year.

The Marmara Istanbul eatery near TV roundabout shut about a week ago and will remain closed until late May, a staffer at the restaurant chain’s branch in Al Sadd told Doha News.

The restaurant’s glass windows have multiple stickers from Qatar’s Ministry of Municipality and Environment (Baladiya) advising of its closure.

They state: “Closed for violating humans’ food control.”

Last May, Doha’s Court of Environmental Misdemeanors found the restaurant guilty of selling food unfit for human consumption and ordered it to close for three months, in addition to jailing, fining and deporting five individuals who worked there.

The restaurant appealed the conviction, but lost in a verdict issued in February this year.

The Bin Omran restaurant did shut after the misdemeanor verdict, then reopened. The current closure will be for the final stage of the three-month closure order, a staff member said.
