With Ramadan just beginning and many residents looking to step up their charitable contributions, Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a new way to “promote good.”
Under its Dal Ala Alkheer initiative, social media users can now donate to their favorite charities without spending any money.
Instead of cash, they are being asked to promote different charity initiatives on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, QC said on its website. It added:
“This new and innovative service allows social media users to donate money in their names to support charity projects around the world without paying one Riyal.
How it works
When residents post a link to any QC charity on their social media accounts, and one of their friends or followers donates through the posted link, he/she is awarded points.
Speaking to Doha News, a QC official explained that people who accumulate points are divided into categories such as Gold, Platinum and Bronze.
This encourages them to compete for charity and collect more points, Executive Director of Financial Resources Mohammad Al Yazidi added.
To participate, go to QC’s website and log in with either their Facebook account, e-mail address or telephone number to register.
Once this information is entered, an activation number is sent to the member to access the page, which includes information on how many points are gathered.

Al Yazidi said that around 10 points is equivalent to QR1, which can be donated to any charity project the resident choses.
Examples include health or educational projects, building a mosque or digging a well to provide drinking water to remote areas across the globe.
Al Yazidi added that QC is working on a mobile app for the service to make it easier to use, but no launch date has been set yet.
So far, more than 300 people have signed on to participate in the program.

QC has previously launched several websites and services to encourage more people to donate to charitable causes.

Earlier this year, it rolled out a website called “Shop and Aid,” which gives people the opportunity to buy products from Amazon and other companies, while also giving a portion of their spending to charity without any extra costs.
And last year, QC started a new travel website, Travel and Aid, that allows users to donate to important causes while booking their next vacation.
