Sandy conditions in Doha

As the thermometer drops and windy, dusty conditions persist this weekend, healthcare professionals are advising parents to take care when going outside with their children.

Over the past two days, some 2,600 kids were treated for respiratory-related problems at public hospitals here due to Thursday’s sandstorm, said Dr. Mohamed Al Amri, assistant director of Pediatric Emergency at Hamad Medical Corp.

The Peninsula reports Al Amri as saying parents should cover their children’s mouths and noses while outside, to avoid reducing inhalation of dust particles.

Previously, HMC doctors have also recommended that in weather like this, residents should drive with their windows closed; avoid rubbing their eyes to prevent infections; and carry a supply of water to keep from being dehydrated.

Today, both dusty conditions and rain are in the forecast, according to the Qatar Meteorology Department.

On its website, the MET warned of low visibility due to strong wind and dust.

It forecast a high of 24C (75F) and low of 15C (59F) in Doha, adding that dusty conditions should calm down by tonight.

Has the weather affected your weekend plans? Thoughts?
