Qatar’s star-studded hosting of the 24th Men’s Handball World Championship came to a dramatic finale last night with fireworks, a traditional drumming performance and three concerts.
The Lusail Multipurpose Hall was packed last night as local fans filled the new stadium to see Qatar play its first-ever handball final, falling to France 25-22.
While the score wasn’t what many spectators had hoped, the outcome nevertheless failed to dampen the enthusiasm of many residents:
The dream’s ended. But incredibly proud of Qatar’s boys. France win 25-22. @dohanews @iloveqatar @qatarliving @handballlefilm @DohaTweetups

Members of Qatar’s national team also received a personal congratulations from the country’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, who took to the court during the medal presentation ceremony:
Others, meanwhile, are already looking ahead in the hopes of seeing Qatar’s national team repeat its strong performance at the next world championships.
Qatar's silver lining? Auto-qualification to 2017 IHF Worlds in… France. REVENGE!
